Fungi love humidity. PH is crazy humid.
Had my rude wake-up call when my first lens grew a cent sized bloom. It was within warranty, so I was lucky they replaced it without much fuss. Since then I’ve been mindful in storing valuable lenses & devices.
I started out with just DIY: airtight container, hygrometer and old-school silica gel. It was okay for a while but the effectivity of the beads went down. Maybe because of overcooking/extreme temperatures.
I moved to Clay desiccant, which came with japanese-inspired snacks. These are still my staple up to now. They work well, tolerant of higher heating temps and ‘wet’ hue is sort of easy to see. I’m heavily dependent on the hygrometer to maintain my preferred 40-50% RH.
Indicating (Color-changing) Silica gel slowly proliferated via online shopping sites. Having the color-change is really convenient and useful, lessening the need for a hygrometer or as a fallback if that breaks/malfunctions. Blue seems a popular color, but should be avoided as it’s ingredients are not totally safe. I went with orange (blues were out-of-stock/being pulled out). My challenge would be avoiding over-heating these when they need to be regenerated.

So far I’m using the CCSG on my drybox, with the clay ones. I placed some inside my boom mic’s box, and some to extend the life of opened super glue.
It’s out of stock from the shop I bought mine from, but here is probably okay too.
